  • Zorvec™ Entecta® joins Corteva's catalog as the most innovative tool in recent decades for controlling downy mildew in potatoes and tomatoes.

  • The new solution is based upon the revolutionary active ingredient Zorvec™, a fungicide with a distinct mode of action (FRAC 49).

In 2024, potato production in Spain grew 0.6% year-on-year, reflecting its stability and relevance in the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, tomato exports for processing increased by 22% in 2023, consolidating its position as one of the main drivers of the country's fruit and vegetable exports. Given the importance of these crops to the sector, Corteva Agriscience™, a global leader in integrated agricultural solutions, is introducing its new fungicide, Zorvec™ Entecta®, in Spain. This innovative tool ensures profitability and sustainability against diseases such as downy mildew, according to company officials.

Downy mildew is a disease caused by pathogens that thrive in humid conditions and moderate temperatures. It can cause significant production losses by affecting both leaves and fruits, reducing crop yield and quality. Effective management requires products with superior persistence, preventive capacity, and action on different stages of the pathogen's life cycle.

Rafael Pérez, Corteva Fungicide Product Marketing Manager for Spain and Portugal, noted, ″Zorvec™ Entecta® is a key tool in the fight against downy mildew, one of the greatest challenges for potato and tomato production. It directly contributes to improving the profitability of these crops.

Zorvec™ Entecta® represents Corteva's latest innovation within its Zorvec™ range. It is based on a new chemical class (FRAC 49) and combines two complementary modes of action. It offers preventative, curative, and anti-sporulation activity, protecting even new growth and maintaining its effectiveness, even in rainy conditions, shortly after application. Its combined use with other fungicides allows for effective resistance management, a key aspect in the current regulatory environment.

Rubén Guerra, Corteva's Technical Manager of Fungicides, added, "We have conducted local demonstrations with the direct participation of farmers, who have been able to see the efficacy and real-world benefits of this systemic fungicide in their fields."

With this launch, Corteva reaffirms its commitment to farmers, offering them innovative tools tailored to the challenges of the field. As the only publicly traded company in the world focused exclusively on agriculture, Corteva continues to work at the technical, agronomic, and regulatory levels to ensure effective, sustainable, and future-proof solutions.
